Although the XOD was designed by Alfred Westmacott in 1909, the first race did not take place until 1911. It was thus decided to celebrate the 100th anniversary in 2011.
" The main celebrations will be at Cowes during Cowes Week 2011"
Each Division will be
organising it's own local events, bioth afloat and
ashore. However, the main celebrations will be at
Cowes during Cowes Week 2011 (6th to 13th August), which will include a mid-week special Centenary mini-series of races. The Royal Motor Yacht Club in Poole Harbour has provided a special trophy for this, as it was the Royal Motor Yacht Club, then based at Hythe, which hosted the very first race of the Class on 3rd June 1911.
Our
ambition to have in excess of 100 boats on the starting line for this very special event for the Class has been more than exceeded with over 140 entries - a real sight.
A
special celebration dinner is being held in Cowes, to which all members of the Class and their guests will be invited.

Two weekends
prior
to Cowes Week an event will
be organized at Hythe, the location for the first race in 1911.
This will be as part of the Central
Solent Regatta. The event will be organized jointly between
the Hamble Division and the Royal Southampton Yacht
Club, who are generously offering their facilities and
support to the event.
