At the annual XOD Prize Giving held on Saturday 25th November, Cowes Week Ltd Chairman Peter Taylor reported on Cowes Week 2017 and current plans for 2018.  These included Squadron and Bramble Line starts for the first 4 days and the option of Committee Boat starts during the second 4 days.  The Class Trophies were kindly presented by Mrs Anne Taylor, who was presented with a bouquet of flowers.

XOD AGM 2017 – Main points:

  • No change in fees and subscriptions for 2018
  • The Class seeks a volunteer as Hon. Accounts Auditor following the retirement of John Tattersall after 11 years
  • Honorary Membership was voted unanimously for William Westmacott
  • Cowes Week trial of one dive clean during the week to continue in 2018
  • Cowes Week trial to relax restriction on professional crews to continue in 2018
  • Open Events calendar for 2018 available (see website / Open Events)
  • Team Race Event proposed for the Friday before Classics Week (20 July 2018)
  • Cowes Week Poll on 8 or 7 days – majority are voting for 7 days
  • New boat builds – updates showed progress
  • Fleet statistics showed a turnout of 63% in 2017, down from 70% in 2016
  • All resolutions were carried unanimously
  • Rule Interpretation of “Aft face of the mast spar” confirmed as per ERS
  • James Meaning elected Class Captain 2018
  • David Palmer continuing as Deputy Chairman in 2018
  • Class Representatives and Committees confirmed, mainly unchanged
  • Peter Baines ratified as TAC Chairman for 2018, following retirement of Tony Monks
