The XOD Class was presented with a new Class trophy at the Cowes Week XOD Cocktail Party on Wednesday 10th August. The trophy is for the winner of the Thursday race during Cowes Week, a race that in previous years, had seen the winner presented with a Cowes Town Regatta Day Trophy. As explained by the XOD Class Captain, Mike Till, Cowes Town Regatta Day and its trophies moved to the final Saturday in 2015, leaving the XOD Class without a trophy for Thursday’s race winner.
This gap in Class trophies has been generously filled by David Palmer with The Princess Jalina Trophy. The new trophy has an image of X188 Princess Jalina under spinnaker engraved into a clear circular panel which is mounted on a solid square black plinth on which the winners’ plaques are displayed. The engraving reproduced a photograph taken by Christian Beasley, marine photographer (standing left) who, with his wife, attended the ceremony as guests of the Class. The trophy came with a pair of white gloves for handling.
The trophy was presented by David Palmer to the XOD Class Captain, Mike Till, who gratefully received it on behalf of the Class.
The trophy was then promptly presented to the first winner, X125 Arrow and owner George Alford, who said how delighted they were, even if they would have to hand the trophy over to this year’s winner the following day!
